History
When Wormtown Brewery was founded, the goal was to create flavorful, hop-forward beers that reflected our personality and our city. Be Hoppy quickly became a cornerstone of our lineup — our answer to the rising popularity of American IPAs in the early-2000s.
The name is a nod to positivity and to our Worcester roots. Over the years, Be Hoppy has grown into a fan favorite, a taproom staple, and a go-to IPA across Massachusetts. It helped establish our reputation for balanced, aromatic IPAs that are bold yet incredibly drinkable.
How We Brew It
Be Hoppy is all about maximizing hop aroma and flavor while maintaining smooth balance.
Our Approach
- Grain Bill: A clean pale malt base that supports — never overshadows — the hops
- Late Hop Additions: Citrus, pine, and floral aromatics without aggressive bitterness
- Dry Hopping: Layers of tropical fruit character and vibrant aroma
- Yeast Selection: A clean-fermenting ale yeast that lets the hops shine
We emphasize late-stage hopping and careful dry hopping to create depth and aroma while keeping bitterness in check. The result is an IPA that’s expressive yet approachable — a true gateway for newcomers and a reliable favorite for hop lovers.
How It Drinks
When you take a sip of Be Hoppy, here’s what you can expect:
- Aroma: Grapefruit zest, orange peel, hints of floral and pine
- Flavor: Mango and pineapple notes balanced by a clean malt backbone
- Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, crisp, highly drinkable
- Finish: Refreshing with a gentle hop bite
We craft Be Hoppy to sit right in the sweet spot of the IPA spectrum — flavorful but never overwhelming.
Perfect Food Pairings
Be Hoppy’s bright hop character pairs beautifully with:
- Grilled meats: chicken, pork, or burgers — hops cut through richness
- Seafood: ceviche, fish tacos, or shrimp with citrus-based sauces
- Spicy dishes: Thai, Mexican, or Buffalo wings — fruitiness balances heat
- Cheese: mild cheddar, Havarti, or Monterey Jack
The hops cut through richness and complement spice, making it an incredibly versatile beer at the table.
